Fail to Plan or Plan to Fail: Preparing for Diversity & Inclusion Training

Diversity and inclusion (D&I) training is often approached with haste as a reactionary measure designed to quickly enhance an organization’s reputation. However, a quick approach to D&I training can actually do more harm than good. In short, haste indeed makes waste without careful and intentional planning that ensures the valuable resources invested in training such as time, energy and money yield substantive results. Issues prompting D&I development are not frivolous and without planning that goes merely beyond the logistics of training (i.e. securing a trainer, date, time and a location), organizations risk alienating employees, frustrating managers, developing a shallow reputation, and remaining stagnant in its D&I efforts.
